APRIL 2008
NEWSLETTER
Greetings to you all from Battle Brook! Things are going fairly well around here. Our
young horse Roulette is a yearling this spring so Carolyn will have her hands
full with training but, we are both looking forward to the challenge. She also
had her good horse Payday bred again and we should know in a week or two if it
took. Keep your fingers crossed.
This has been a very difficult winter/spring for us. We have
lost three very close friends, two of whom you probably don’t know because they
were friends from our past. But, one I’m
sure you all know. My dear friend Dave
Gow passed away March 12th, the result of a very tragic accident. He
was overcome by carbon monoxide fumes while getting his generator ready for the
upcoming season. I’m sure that I speak for all of us when I say to Kathy that
our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very
difficult time and that together we will get through this and forge ahead. Dave
was a wonderful guy who really would have given you the shirt off his back
without question or expecting anything in return. Farewell my friend, I’ll sure
miss our weekly BS sessions. It really is amazing how many of the world’s
problems can be solved in a couple of hours in the barn over a case of beer.
Anyway, spring is here (I think) and it’s time to turn and
burn again! We start the Dist. 6 season off April 26 & 27 at Rhino Arena
followed by 5/10 & 5/11@ Rhino, 5/17 &18 @ Chisholm, 6/7 @ Heidelberger’s
in Pine City, 6/21 & 22 @ Aitkin, 6/28 Wishes and More @ Mission Creek,
7/12 @ Mission creek, 8/9 @ Heidelberger’s and finally 8/22 thru 8/24 NBHA
State Finals. I have included flyers for the first three shows. The two day
show at Chisholm has $1500 added each day so barring any freak snow squalls and
freezing temps (remember last year?) it should be a great time. You need to
call Rhonda at 218-254-2316 by 5/1 to reserve your stalls.
Last but not least, Tami has agreed to stay on as director
for 2008. I think that’s great news because she does such a wonderful job but
we’re gonna need more help from you not only setting barrels and dragging but
with the office as well. She needs to have some extra time to work her young
horse so please volunteer as much of your time as you can. Also, don’t forget about
sponsors! More sponsors mean bigger paybacks for you and more business for
them. It’s a win win situation so do what you can.
Well, that’s all I have for now except for this. Please,
please, please be careful when working with any kind of internal combustion
engine. Carbon monoxide is a deadly killer! We’ve all heard stories about
people who have had near misses or who have been killed by this stuff but now
we all know someone that it has happened to. Please forgive me for repeating
myself but I beg you, don’t become another statistic. Be safe and as always,
9/11
God Bless America
Mike
